Bloomsburg Baseball Splits Doubleheader with West Chester

BLOOMSBURG- Preston Hitchcock (Laceyville/Lock Haven) drove in three runs and Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) homered as the Bloomsburg University baseball team split a doubleheader with West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Saturday. The Huskies fell in game one 3-2, and won game two 10-7.
In game one, West Chester would take a 3-0 lead through five innings before Bloomsburg rallied. Anthony Foreman (Richboro/Council Rock South) doubled in Carlos Medina (Lititz/Manheim Twp.) to cut the West Chester lead to two. In the bottom of the 6th, Bloomsburg would cut the West Chester lead to one when Matt Allen's (Willamsport/Clarion) one-out single drove in Donofry, but the Huskies could come no closer as West Chester's Eric Carmichael retired the side.
In game two, the Huskies bats came to life in the second inning. Hitchcock's three run double gave the Huskies a 4-0 lead, while Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown) and Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) would score later in the inning to give the Huskies a 6-0 lead after two. Bloomsburg would extend their lead to 8-2 in the 4th courtesy of Donofry's third home run of the year and an Allen RBI single. West Chester would rally in the 5th and 6th innings to cut the Bloomsburg lead to one, but in the bottom of the 6th, Tressler and Ward both scored yet again to seal the victory for the Huskies.
With the win, The Huskies improve to 12-29, 5-9 in the PSAC East.
The Huskies return to action on Friday when they travel to Mansfield. The action gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
